Using the question bank for active learning, not only assessment

A strategy for turning multiple-choice questions into a source of logical reasoning and identifying gaps in knowledge.

A common mistake is to use the question bank only to test memorisation at the end of a chapter. A better approach is to use it as a learning tool alongside each topic.

For each question, analyse why the correct answer is correct, why the other three options are incorrect and which change in the question's information could make another option correct.

Record the causes of mistakes in a revision log: was the error due to missing knowledge, reading the information too quickly or confusion about terminology?

Repeat questions you answered incorrectly at spaced intervals (spaced repetition) to consolidate the concept.
